Recipe Ingredients I Used.

This dairy free coleslaw is more tangy and has no sweetness like classic slaw. The only ingredients I used was coleslaw mix, garlic, ripe avocado, fresh cilantro and lime juice.

This is a very simple recipe to make and here is how I made it.

STEP 1: To make the creamy avocado dressing add the garlic and cilantro to a food processor to mince both.

This recipe holds up very well the next day and my hubby ended up taking some in his lunch. One note about the dressing, it’s very thick. If you want it thinner, add a bit more lime juice or water and taste as you go.

Keto recipes to serve with this summer side dish.

This would be a delicious summer dish for a picnic, cookout or weeknight dinner. So try it with this keto marinated chicken, garlic pulled pork, air fryer baby back ribs or chicken legs.

You could also add a little cooked chicken or cooked shrimp with it to make it more of a meal.

Keto Avocado Coleslaw Recipe (dairy free)

Yield: 5

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

This creamy keto avocado coleslaw is mayonnaise free and perfect for summer picnics or to serve alongside tacos or anything on the grill. It's creamy from the avocado and the lime and cilantro add so much flavor! Each serving is only 3.2g net carbs

Ingredients

  • 14 oz coleslaw, bagged
  • 1 ½ avocados
  • ¼ cup cilantro leaves
  • 2 limes, juiced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 garlic clove
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • cilantro to garnish

Instructions

  1. In a food processor add the garlic and cilantro and process until chopped.
  2. Add the lime juice, avocados and water. Pulse until nice and creamy. Note that some people thought this was too sour and I think it depends on the size of your limes. I used small ones and recently measured the juice to be about 2 tablespoons. If your limes are largers just use 2 tablespoons.
  3. Take out the avocado mixture and in a large bowl mix it with the coleslaw. It will be a bit thick but it will cover the slaw nicely.
  4. For best results, refrigerate for a few hours before eating to soften the cabbage.

Notes

The nutritional information for 1 serving is: 119 calories
8.9g fat / 9.2g carbs / 6g fiber / 2.2g protein = 3.2g net carbs

Note this would go great on top of burgers or fish tacos. But it would also be a wonderful summer side dish with grilled burgers, wings or pulled pork.

A little too sour for me too. I’m sure the level depends on your particular limes and cilantro. I didn’t use the stems For that reason. I added some Yuzu and loved, Thanks!

Hi Cynthia, I had to google yuzu lol and that sounds so interesting. Sorry it’s a bit too sour for you but glad you figured out how to fix it. I’ll be remaking this recipe soon and maybe adjusting things.

Perfect to top our fish tacos with! Plain Greek yogurt is a good sub for avocado.

Really excited to make this. It was a little too sour for my Hubby. I added salt and pepper to my serving and found it enjoyable. I think next time I will lessen the lime and add salt and pepper. Thanks for the recipe it was exactly what i was looking for as a side dish with our burgers with no bun.

Hi Janelle, it was intended to be a little tart because my hubby doesn’t like the sweet kind. Thanks for sharing your experience though! I’ll have to make it again and see if I can doctor it a bit. It’s a good summer side dish and it’s very filling.

Tried this one today. It’s a little too tart for my particular taste. I guess I’m used to sweeter slaw. Tried adding a couple of tablespoons of xylitol. Letting the flavors blend while refrigerating. Hopeful😃

      Hi Roseann,
You could probably just use mayonnaise if you wish. Hope that helps!
