    A Refreshing Mexican Mango Drink

This bright and fruity mangonada drink is the sweet and spicy treat your summer afternoons were missing! Made with lots of mango and chamoy, every sip through the tamarind candy straw will be a taste of Mexico without stepping out of your kitchen.

All you have to do is make sure you’ve got mango on hand and you’ll be pouring this drink into tangy Tajín-rimmed glasses within 5 minutes. While this recipe prepares 2 servings, you might want to double it because there’s no way it’ll last that long— especially if you add a little tequila.

Enjoyed on its own or with a side of sliced fruit and more chili powder, this mangonada will become your new favorite slushy-like drink. Halfway between a drink and dessert, it’ll put a smile on your face every single time.

    What is a Mangonada?

A mangonada drink (also known as a chamango or chamoyada) is a slushied Mexican drink made of blended mango or mango puree. The serving glasses are lined with chamoy sauce. Sometimes freshly chopped mango is added before the mango slushy is poured in for a bit of texture. The result is an icy and colorful drink that’s often sold in parks, outside museums, or along large avenues.

    Recipe Ingredients

It’s a mango bonanza! Check the recipe card at the bottom of the post for full ingredient amounts.

    • Frozen mangos – You can use frozen puree/pulp or mango chunks for this recipe. Some people even use mango sorbet, but I find it makes it a little too sweet for my tastes.
    • Mango nectar – If you can find Mango Nectar, feel free to substitute it for good quality mango juice.
    • Lime juice – Lemon juice is a good swap.
    • Ice
    • Chamoy – Use your favorite or try my recipe for Homemade Chamoy!
    • TajínTajin adds the perfect amount of zing!
    • Fresh mango – You can also use thawed frozen mango.
    • Tarugos (Mexican tamarind candy straws): These are totally optional, but a Tarugo on top is the perfect garnish!

    How to Make a Mangonada

Satisfying your mangonada drink cravings is easy with only 4 easy steps.

    • Process it. Place the frozen mango, mango nectar, lime juice, and ice in the blender. Process everything until you get a smooth puree.
    • Rim the glasses. Gently dip the rim of your serving glasses in chamoy. Then dip in the Tajín. Set them aside to air-dry.

    Tips & Variations

A little tequila and some Miguelito can instantly make this mangonada drink more interesting.

    • Make it boozy. Add tequila or rum to taste for a boozy version of this drink.
    • Prep ahead. Dice fresh mango and freeze it in serving sizes so that all you need to do is blend the next time you’re craving mangonadas.
    • Add Miguelito. Swap the Tajín rim for one made with Miguelito chili powder. Your drink will be much sweeter!

    Serving Suggestions

This mangonada drink is great on its own to help you cool off from hot summer days. I recommend it with light, fruity appetizers like chamoy-wrapped apples. You can also enjoy it with simple fruit sides like sliced jicama, cucumber, or watermelon with your favorite chili sauces.

If you’re having them with a heartier protein-packed main, make sure it’s not too spiced or seasoned. My Carne Asada Tacos are a great option for enjoying with mangonadas!

Can You Prepare A Chamango Drink In Advance?

Not really, but you can definitely prep the mangos in advance (freeze or refrigerate them) to help you speed things up if making these for a party.
