What is a Drumstick?

We’re not talking about a piece of chicken or part of an instrument, but the delicious ice cream treat featured in this post! The Drumstick’s origins can be traced to the 1904 World’s Fair, where an ice cream maker ran out of bowls to sell ice cream. The maker had a waffle vendor make cones for his ice cream, and the rest is history!

Hi, Kristy at the Rada Kitchen, and today I’m going to make drumstick bars.

(see above or end of the video for ingredients)

For the first layer, you need 2 cups of the vanilla wafers crushed. So I took my rolling pin, crushed them on my Rada Cutting Board, and the neat thing about this is that it flexes, so you can pour it into your measuring cup. I’ll pour that into my mixing bowl.

Then you need 2/3 cups of crushed salted peanuts. To crush those, I put them in a bowl, and I’m going to use the Rada Food Chopper. It’s serrated, so it’s really sharp and it easily chops up these nuts. It’s kind of fun.

So when you have those chopped up, you need 2/3 cups of the peanuts and add that to the crushed vanilla wafers and your half cup of melted butter. You’re going to mix that all together and then you’ll put that in the bottom of a 9×13 inch pan, and we’ll bake that for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

The second layer consists of cream cheese, powdered sugar, and peanut butter. We’re going to mix it till it’s smooth. I’m going to gradually add the powdered sugar as it mixes. Now all the ingredients are mixed and smooth, and now we’re going to add 2 cups of the whipped topping, we’re going to fold it in and not mix it. We want to keep it light and fluffy.

Add this layer to the first layer that we baked in the oven. Evenly spread it over that layer. Our third layer is our twopackages of our chocolate pudding made with3 cups of milk. I made this earlier, because you need to chill it using our Rada Handi-Stir. It’s a great thing to make puddings and gravies.

Now we’re ready for our fourth layer, which is another 2 cups of whipped topping over top of the chocolate pudding one. Now I’m going to use the Rada Super Spreader to spread out the whipped topping. It’s just the right size to reach the sides of the pan. Now we’re going to add the rest of your salted peanuts. Then with the Rada Vegetable Peeler, I’m going to grate or try to make some chocolate curls. You can also make butter peels with the Peeler.

Here’s our drumstick bars. You’ll want to chill these over night.
